Our KNOW OPTIONS Self Protection Workshops / Courses are designed for the everyday person. Dependent on the age group being taught, we modify the course accordingly in terms of general content. However, all our courses cover personal safety awareness in one's daily life as well as focusing on easy to remember and effective physical self defense techniques. Our courses are ideal for teaching not only young adults at college or working adults but also the teaching of child self protection and child personal safety awareness skills.

What is the Predatory Violence Paradigm (PVP)?

Most people think attacks happen randomly—but in reality, criminals follow patterns. The Predatory Violence Paradigm (PVP) is a framework that explains how real-world assaults actually occur.

Predators don’t attack everyone—they observe, evaluate, and choose targets based on vulnerability. They move carefully, close distance, and strike when the victim is unaware.

By understanding PVP, you can:

6 Essential Self Defense Moves

#4 Elbow Strike : Used up close, the elbow is a brutal, compact weapon — aimed at the face or throat. Elbows are versatile: forward, backward, sideways, downward — same mechanics, multiple angles.

• Fold your arm tight so the elbow becomes a sharp point.

• Strike with the flat area 1–2 inches above or below the tip of the elbow (position depends on the direction).

• Drive the strike with a hard rotation of the hips and shoulders for maximum power.

#3 Knee Strike : In close range a knee is devastating. “This strike delivers devastating pain goes to the groin — or the face if the attacker is bent over,” Coach Azlimmi says.

Drive it hard to break the contact and escape.
• From your fighting stance, use the rear leg.
• Fully fold the knee so your heel tucks toward your butt.
• Thrust the point of your knee upward and forward into the groin.
• Power comes from an explosive forward drive of both hips.

6 Essential Self Defense Moves

#2 Palm Strike : “A palm strike is a safer, equally effective alternative to a punch,” says Coach Azlimmi. “Target the nose or throat and strike hard to create a window to escape.”

From your fighting stance:
• Explode your palm forward in a straight line away from your face.
• Drive power from a fast hip and shoulder rotation.
• Curl your fingers in but keep the hand open — strike with the heel of the palm, not the wrist.

6 Essential Self Defense Moves

#1 Defensive Stance : Begin by being in the right mindset and set yourself up for success. As Coach Azlimmi reminds us, “A strong fighting stance gives you greater striking power, helps you stay balanced, and keeps you ready to run for safety the moment an escape opens up.”

Here’s how to get into position:

* Stand with your feet about shoulder-width apart.
* Step forward naturally with your nondominant leg (left leg if you’re right-handed, and vice versa).
* Keep your toes pointed forward, with your feet evenly spaced from side to side and front to back.
* Bend your knees slightly and lift your back heel just off the ground.
* Tuck your chin in, raise your shoulders a bit, and bring your hands up in front of your face—palms facing outward in a clear “stop” signal.

SHIELD 3.0 : Know Options Women’s Self Protection Seminar

KNOW OPTIONS™ is a short immersive course designed to improve physical self-defense, situational awareness, verbal de-escalation skills and fear management. It is a mixture of classroom discussion and innovative partner drills and will have the participants leaving the workshop with simple, practical but effective self-protection skills.

Created by Coach Azlimmi Himzal, the workshop leverages the KNOW OPTIONS™ concept, which is based on human physiology and natural biomechanics. The “startle-flinch response” is part of the human survival reflex, and attendees learn to harness it as a catalyst for protective movement.

The SELF DEFENCE 4 HOPE Initiative

SD4HOPE is an outreach programme training women across Malaysia in effective practical self-defense. Sponsoring this project provides a fantastic opportunity to benefit from the associated publicity around the programme, while presenting a unique chance to engage staff, clients, and stakeholders in the process. We need to secure funding to train almost 1,000 women annually and to turn this programme into reality.

KNOW OPTIONS wants to increase the capacity of offering FREE self-defense classes not just in Kuala Lumpur but all over the country at this crucial time. To make these classes a reality, we need financial support.
